How Retail Prodigy Group got involved in GivingTuesday on 3 December 2019

Giving Tuesday at RPG

GivingTuesday at RPG

On Tuesday 3rd December 2019, Retail Prodigy Group (RPG) Store Managers, Area Managers & Support Office team members were fortunate enough to participate in Giving Tuesday, a world-wide movement to give back to communities all over the globe.

Giving Tuesday began in the U.S in 2012 and over the course of 7 years, spread throughout the world as a day of celebrating generosity in any shape or form. The movement is being recognised in Australia and New Zealand, with more and more individuals and businesses taking part on the day.

This year was the first time Retail Prodigy Group volunteered to take part in the initiative after our CEO Stephen Younane was inspired to give back after spending time volunteering alongside TOMs on a giving trip to the Philippines earlier this year.

For our first Giving Tuesday, RPG decided to donate the time of our Store Managers, Area Managers & Support Office employees. That is 80 team members across Australia and New Zealand supporting 14 organisations and non-for-profits, equating to 608 hours of time donated on Giving Tuesday.

RPG’s culture is underpinned by five core Values, with our main one being CARE. Being able to live this value in store, in our office and in every-day life is something we are all passionate about. I am honoured I was able to manage this project for RPG and fortunate to be supported by a team of employees who volunteered to be their state representatives and bring this project to life.

Together we were able to assist the following organisations:

  • New Zealand – Cure Kids, Canteen, SPCA

  • Western Australia – Lifeblood, Australian Relief & Mercy Services

  • Queensland – Lifeline, Meals on Wheels

  • New South Wales – Washhouse INC, Landcare, Dementia Australia

  • Victoria – Salvation Army, Impact For Women, Challenge, Homie, Bayside Council

We are so fortunate to be able to have the opportunity to give back in some way. I would like to thank Steve and RPG for giving us the time to go out and support these amazing organisations across Australia and New Zealand. A big thank you to teams that went out and supported these incredible organisations and to all the people behind these organisations who spend their day, every day spreading generosity and giving back to their local communities.
